On Sharing Pricing
Today, I’m sharing some information on pricing at my site. I’ve been considering whether or not to share my pricing for a while, but decided everyone could win if I did.
I began considering it mainly because I don’t see many folks in my field doing it, which makes me question why they don’t (additionally, who’s best served by not sharing that information).
I fully realize every project is different, which seemed to be the biggest contributing factor to pricing not being shared. It’s not fair to charge a one-size-fits-all price for every client or project, but sharing an average could be just fine and very helpful.
With that in mind, I decided I’d take an average of a few average projects and share some data from them. Clients can see what things cost and I can talk to clients who are serious about working together. I think lots of people (clients, me and other designers) can benefit from it.
Clients
Clients can expect to save their time. It’d be tough to tell you exactly how many conversations I’ve had with potential clients and answering questions about what I charge, how much does a normal project cost, etc. It’s part of the business, and that’s fine. I just want to make it easier for both of us. I don’t want to waste your time if I’m not going to work out for you.
Me
I win because clients save time. If someone sees that information and decides I’m not the right fit for their project, we both can move on and enjoy life. No real time wasted here.
Designers
I mentioned above that I don’t see tons of other people in my field openly sharing their pricing. Again, that’s totally fine. But I just want to make it easier to see how someone works (I also published a bit about my process, too) and what costs are generally involved. Designers can make of it what they will, and I hope it helps them.
Enjoy!
